Unique Architecture Near Milton Keynes
Picture this. You drive into a small sleepy Northamptonshire village with a handful of traditional thatched cottages and then stumble across this architectural gem. Originally designed and built by an architect in the 1960 as part of the Ideal Homes Exhibition, it was one of the first A-frame houses built in the UK. That fascination with the history and the unusual shape was what attracted the current owner, also an architect, to this unusual property. It was important to him to preserve the history of the building rather than knocking it down and constructing a new build, which would have been easier and more cost effective.
What was Important When Choosing Windows and Doors?
Visiting the Internorm stand at the Grand Designs Live exhibition, what attracted him to the Internorm triple glazed windows and doors, at the Grand Designs Live exhibition, was the product range and the sleekness of the design, perfect for this complex, carefully planned full house renovation project.
After the event he contacted Internorm partner Infinite Windows based in Milton Keynes. They were local and it was very much a team effort. Together they worked closely on the design and selecting the ideal Internorm products for this renovation project. The sleekness of the design from the outside, the fact that you can mix and match uPVC Aluminium and
Timber Aluminium without losing the external appearance, the thermal as well as acoustic performances of the windows were important. All those benefits combined were the reason for selecting Internorm windows and entrance doors.
Internorm tilt & turn windows and Aluminium entrance doors were also installed in the new garage block and pool house.
What are the highlights of the renovation project?
The highlight of building or renovating any house is the end product. It was important to get light into the property and that was certainly achieved. It is the attention to detail within the build, such as the colour of the windows and roof picking up the subtle grey in the stone, or the carefully planned order of timbers of the cladding, that resulted in a renovation that has been beautifully executed. The homeowner admitted that it was hard work getting there. Many times, he was unsure about continuing with the renovation but in the end it was absolutely worth it. Looking at the project as both the designer, architect, as well as homeowner, he offers this advice to anyone thinking of embarking on a renovation or selfbuild:
“It is always worth consider the external appearance of a house, which is quite often overlooked. A house has a roof, walls and windows and the windows make up a third of the property. Think about everything in detail. Only then will you end up with something cohesive and a delight to look at.”

Close Partnership Between Client and Internorm Partner
Infinite Windows owner Colin Lowe very much enjoyed working on this project:
“Ordinarily we would be dealing with a client who has an architect in the background. Here, with the client being the designer and architect, there was a very detailed brief but there were also changes that we could offer on style, thermal efficiency and not just cost savings.”
They both agree, the end result is exactly what they wanted, even a few steps further. Perfect from every side!
